Produced by Bob Rock, the album featured the lead guitar work of Jason Becker, a then up-and-coming guitarist who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a week after joining the band. Bob Rock was a house engineer at Little Mountain, and engineered many albums for Fairbairn before becoming a producer himself. The album was recorded in late 1990/early 1991, during the first year of Cher's relationship to Bon Jovi's guitarist Richie Sambora. A second single and video was released for "Sensible Shoes," but airplay on MTV was limited due to the provocative nature of the video. Brooks was an independent producer working out of an office at CKWX after having left Homer Street Studios. The tour supporting the record was a financial failure, with low attendance and nearly half the shows cancelled due to poor ticket sales.When the album was first released, controversy ensued surrounding the promotional music video for the album's first single, "A Lil' Ain't Enough," which featured scantily dressed women and oddly dressed little people. She dedicated the album to him and "every man that ever made me shed a tear". Brooks then replaced the manager with Bruce Levens. It was certified gold on April 11, 1991.
