We used this trail to connect with the Raccoon River Valley Trail. The endpoint is located 1.3 miles east along the trail at 73rd St. in Windsor Heights (also the northwestern endpoint for the I have ridden many different trails around Iowa, but haven’t been on any for awhile. What is more disconcerting to hikers looking to spend time in nature is that for the rest of the hike the trail runs right along either the Baltimore-Washington Parkway or I-95, if not close enough to actually see the highways, certainly close enough to hear the rush of passing cars. I saw a couple of joggers, and the trail is well suited for such an endeavor since the surface is mostly smooth and there aren’t too many hills.

Locals may appreciate the trail’s presence here, but visitors may prefer to start farther east at the Campbell Recreation Area, where the trail immediately dives into woodlands, and you can easily see why it’s called the “Greenbelt.”The lush border of trees gives you the feeling of being away from it all, while restaurants, stores, and other businesses are positioned within easy reach of the pathway.
