I will absolutely take a moment to celebrate my own teachers, my colleagues and our profession as a whole next Friday - it’s so important to take care of each other, and acknowledging our work is something we so rarely do.One of the biggest changes is the use of technology. It's celebrated on the last Friday in October and it doesn't coincide with actual World Teachers' Day. If students don’t have the skills of work ethic, respect and confidence instilled in them, they are less likely to produce good quality work. One of the things I love most about teaching is being able to create and foster positive outcomes for students of all abilities, and see pride light up in their eyes. I love it when they take their initial idea and run with it but continue to perfect their skills by challenging themselves further, eventually becoming self-directed. Teaching has a bright future because we have passionate and dedicated teachers working hard to develop the potential of each student.Through teaching both English and Physical Education at secondary level I really want to reach students on the fringes. But as we head into the future in this digital age I’m excited so see how these will improve and advance to support teachers and students to be the best they can be.My career has spanned all years from Kindergarten to Year 6; Support Teacher Learning; Release from Face to Face teacher; as well as executive roles in curriculum, stage coordinator, and leading Teacher Accreditation familiarisation and implementation.
I laugh nearly every day with students and it really does help to overshadow the more challenging moments.I teach in an independent school where I’ve spent the last 14 years.
They have had the biggest impact on my teaching career by far, and I will always be grateful for them. World Teachers' Day is held internationally on 5 October. At my school, we celebrate by giving teachers a gift recognising their contribution to our school community. The Standards give us benchmarks and goals for all areas, and responsibilities for teachers.Copyright © 2019, Australian Institute for Teaching and School LeadershipAfter completing year 12, I took a gap year (or 4!)
I’m really passionate about inclusion and creating welcoming and safe spaces and environments for all people.I believe that great teaching focuses on a skill and uses knowledge to assist the learning of that skill. Only in this environment can students be fully open to learning.Teachers, along with other adults in my life, made a significant and positive impact upon shaping who I am today. I’d always considered teaching so when I decided to come home and get a ‘grown up job’ and I got my teaching qualification. Literature and English can teach students so much about themselves, and I hope to pass that passion on!I taught in The Netherlands for 13 years, then after a short time teaching in Sri Lanka I migrated to Australia, where I have been teaching ever since. This can be done by students knowing they’re allowed to make mistakes, good classroom management, and setting clear expectations of behaviour with consistent and fair consequences.
