They both ended up going with i3's, as they were "used to Intel" as well as the i3 being marginally faster for gaming. Priced at under $190, the i5-8400 offers fantastic value for money. I have an i5 8400 in my computer. Now option one is to go basic Intel route with i5-9400f/H310/16 GB DDR4 2666, and another is to make a switch to AMD and buy R5 … This compares reasonably well to the i5-8600K which has a base clock of 3.6 GHz, all core boost of 4.1 GHz and a single core boost of 4.3 GHz. For how much?Probably apparently in April intel will unveil 10th gem the 10th gen i5’s will have smt so it’s better to wait or grab a R5 3600I have an i5 8400 in my computer. The 1600 AF can be OC'ed to ~4.1 GHz on the stock cooler and the RAM can be OC'ed on ~$75 B450 boards to close that performance gap. The i5 9600k costs 220$ and the r5 3600 costs 200$. I my self am planning to change the platform and upgrade to 3700x as soon as possible.

Microcenter has a deal where the r5 2600x is 100 freaking dollars so if you’re near one fire away (idk if it’ll still be here by the time you read this but whatever) It’s great for my uses (fps games, web browsing, some CAD work) but go for a ryzen 5. And the Ryzen 5 3600 destroys it for the same price.Current-gen i5s are still barely clinging to relevance for some niche uses, like cheap e-sports rigs. For $190-$200 from Amazon or Newegg? It currently costs 33% more, but it was often 50% faster in applications and provided roughly 30% gains in modern games. My 8400 is fricken great, it’s a very good cpu But it obviously depends on how much you are getting it for and what you want to use it forThink I'm really late for this, but is it worth it in 2020?Well it probably goes down to the motherboard. Games like fortine and pubg use at least 60% of the i5 8400 on a clean rig. (Just a couple of times during a 20 min pubg session.) I’ve found someone selling the i5 and an nzxt case for 120$. Core i5 9400F, Does Intel Offer More Value @ $150? Along with the release of the unlocked i5-8600K, this is the first time that six-core processors have featured in the i5 line-up. Just need the cpu and the mobo. No, go buy a ryzen cpu there better at this pricepoint...the Ryzen 5 3600 destroys the Core i5-9400F in core-heavy games and applications. Go for RyzenIt was dead on arrival for most users.i recently upgraded from i5 8400 to r5 3600 and i couldnt be happierYou could get an i5 9600K for $225 (will require an aftermarket cooler)Or a Ryzen 1600 AF (a slightly underclocked Ryzen 2600) for most of the i5 9400F's performance at $85. It’s great for my uses (fps games, web browsing, some CAD work) but go for a ryzen 5. I’m planning on building a pc on a budget.
Close. Ramping up to 90%(with their recent updates, causing stutters). And it's just enough for web browsing and office word editing. I'm experiencing a lot of stutters in games even in fortnite. Right know a Ryzen 5 1600F (same performance than a Ryzen 5 2600) outperforms it for just 99€.

The i5 9400F is still at ~$150 since the review. No, it is not. 6 month earlier I had no stutters.
I have Z370 Asus TUF motherboard with this CPU and it works VERY well (all core 3.8Ghz). And i am faced with a difficult choice, which platform to choose. AMD continues to push the multi-core performance envelope: benchmarks show that the 3600 has a 27% overclocked 64-core lead over the 9600K but that the i5-9600K leads by 14% on single to hex core workloads which translates to 10% higher EFps in most of the today’s top games (e.g.

Just as itsyourboi103 said, buying a Ryzen is way better because you get similar performance for less price. That all depends on what you're using it for, and how much it costs to get this 8400.No, go for cheap B450 and Ryzen 1600 AF. I’ve found someone selling the i5 and an nzxt case for 120$.

This CPU is destroying them in FPS games (CPU frequency, memory latency intensive workload). Could be that my configuration is just spot on and works at it's best...It was a good CPU when it was released and its price was 140-150€.

The 3600 is in competition with Intel’s 6-core i5-9600K. ... or a first gen r5 (I believe only the Z boards were out at the time or something). that cpu is gonna give you micro stutters all over the place, it was good budget option and a miracle of intel(having 6 cores as an i5) 2 years agoSooo my point is: in early 2020 at least you need 6 cores. Are you buying it used? I am upgrading from I5 4690 (locked)/8 GB DDR3/H81M-C and 1070GTX (i am keeping that).
